One For The Record Books
The Bucs Defense made one of the greatest showings in Super Bowl History. Coach
Jon Gruden and his Bucs won their first NFL championship Sunday January 26, 2003, routing
the Oakland Raiders 48-21 in the first Super bowl contest of best offense vs. best
defense.
The Tampa Bay defense won by returning three of a record five interceptions for touchdowns
and shutting down any hope the Raiders had of a 4th quarter comeback. 'There was nothing
they could do to us,'' Bucs defensive tackle Warren Sapp said. ''Nothing.'' It was
vindication for the Bucs, a team that lost its first 26 games after it started playing in
1976.
